Testing Week 2!!!

The students did a wonderful job of coming to school well rested and prepared for the first week of testing.  Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for all the healthy snacks this week.  The students really enjoyed them and were excellent brain food!!!

**Our class auction basket theme is SPA.  You may begin bringing in items to the classroom because they will be due on April 9th.  I have already received some body scrub from Bath and Body Works.  Some other ideas could be:  nail polish, bath soaps/oils, lotions/creams, gift cards to spas/salons, etc.

**Don’t forget to keep track of lenten sacrifices on the chart given.  Students may bring in the money when received or save it until the end.  I have a milk jug to collect the money in the classroom.  Keep up the good work.

Weekly News 2/22 - 2/26

Earlier in the week, I returned Schedule A to the students.  Any mechanical or grammatical errors marked need to be corrected on the next schedules.  I did not take off points for this first one, but will on all future papers.  I also wrote comments or questions to help guide students to a more successful experiment.  If you have any questions, please let me know before continuing with any of the testing.

Don’t forget to mark down the day you bring snack for testing.  The list is located on the last week’s post.  Please try to stay well rested and make it to school each day because we are using the whole 10 days to complete the tests.

I really enjoyed their inventor paragraphs.  We presented these with the other class and got to learn a lot about safe and useful things in our community.  Nice job!

We have completed division and all the parts of speech for third grade.  BIG accomplishments this week!!!!  Way to go, third graders.  You are doing awesome!

We had a great Valentine’s party!!  I loved seeing everyone in red or their SAINTS shirts!  They are definitely a “sweet” bunch!!

I received Schedule A and will have it graded next week.  Please look over it and any comments or corrections NEED to be made on Schedule B or points will be taken off.

The students took home a paper today explaining their Lenten Project that will start on Wednesday, Feb. 17.  Please read it over will your child and please let me know it you have any questions. 

I am going to include a snack schedule for testing.  It begins Monday, Mar. 1 and ends Friday, Mar. 12.  Please provide a healthy snack on your assigned day.  Ex:  cheese and crackers, fruit, granola bars, etc.  Drinks are optional.  We have a total of 11 students in the class.  If you need to change your day, please let me know ahead of time to switch the schedule.  Thanks!

It was so nice to see all of the parents at the luncheon today!!  I know that the students really enjoyed you being there too! 

Thank you also for your support of the classroom and the school library by attending the Book Fair.  We appreciate your generosity and encouragement of the students to further their learning through books.

If you have any empty large, rectangular tissue boxes, I could still use a couple by Monday or Tuesday.

Continue to bring water bottles until further notice.  I hope that it will help with the effort in keeping all students healthy and germ free.  Thanks to those who already brought in the cases. 

We are no longer playing football at St. Mary School for recess, P.E., etc.  There has been too many instances of rough play and students getting hurt.  : (

The Valentine’s parties will be on Friday, Feb. 12th!!!  Students may bring Valentine cards for friends and a special snack will be provided.  Below is a list of students in both classes if needed:

Mrs. Whatley complimented the students on a wonderful job Monday while working with the Kindergarteners.  They also commented on how much fun they had!

Monday the students will get to view the Book Fair in the Library and make a wish list.  You can send $$ with them to school or take them at any of the before or after school times.  There is also a sign up sheet near the front office if anyone would like to volunteer to help Mrs. Pomes.

Science fair packets went home today in the Friday folders.  Please look over them and mark the due dates.  The teacher needs to approve Schedule A before the student continues any of the project.

Weekly News 1/25 - 1/29

*Monday, Jan. 25, the third grade students will start working with the Kindergarten PM class.  This will be a weekly event that the students have been looking forward to.  Third grade will be reading with K and helping them with other basic skills.  We are looking forward to meeting them and enjoying all the great fun it will be!!! 

*The students did a great job on their poem today!!!  Keep up the good work by continuing to practice cursive writing, multiplication facts, and the states!!

*If you have any empty rectangular Kleenex boxes, please send them to school for a special project. 

*Below is a message from Mrs. Burke about the upcoming fundraiser:

Hello Ms. Soileau’s Class!  The annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser is being replaced this year with a Gala scheduled for this spring.  Classroom baskets will be prepared once again for auction.  The theme for Ms. Soileau’s 3rd Grade Class is “Spa”.  I will be coordinating the basket for our class.  Please start thinking about items to include in the basket and share with me any ideas that you may have.  We need to have it ready by March 12th (just before Spring Break).  I can be reached by the following contact information.  Thanks in advance for your help on this project.

Weekly News 1/11 - 1/15

What a great week back from the holidays!!  The students came back refreshed and ready to start a new year!

The students are moving along and doing an awesome job so far on multiplication.  Keep up the good work and use time at home or car rides to continually study flashcards so they will memorize the facts.

The Spelling Bee has been moved up this year and will take place next Friday, Jan. 15.  We have been practicing in the classroom and I will announce our class representative on Monday.

***Correction on my previous newsletter.  We were recently informed of an additional change in dates for Catholic Schools Week.  It will be on the week of Feb. 1-5.  I will have a list of scheduled fun in the Upcoming Events section.

Some cases of lice were going around in the younger grades this week.  Girls are advised to wear their hair up.  Continue to tell the students not to share hats, brushes, etc. 

Conference times will go out next week.  If you need to reschedule or request a different time, please let me or the office know.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!  

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas season with family and friends.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday ready to kickstart a great 2010!!

One new and exciting thing beginning this week is the use of all cursive handwriting.  We have completed all lowercase letters and will finish the uppercase letters this month.  The students are required to write all lowercase words in cursive.  (unless otherwise instructed)  This also includes homework.  Please continue to encourage neat handwriting when working outside of school. 

New book report information and poem will be given out and posted this week.

Weekly News 12/14 - 12/18

December 14th, 2009

The students have finished writing all lowercase cursive letters!!  After the Christmas break we will go through the uppercase letters and then they will be writing in only cursive!! 

On Thursday, Dec. 17, the school will have the Christmas feast after Mass.  Each class will be bringing in a food item.  Our class is in charge of bringing cheese and crackers.  You should have received an email from Mrs. Geisen about this.  If you did not get an email, let me know.

We have been making a couple of Christmas crafts in the classroom.  If you have any extra or willing to donate any Christmas tissue paper or some plain colored gift bags, we could use them this week.  Thanks.

We found out the theme of the spring auction baskets early this year.  Our class theme is “Spa” if you find some items while holiday shopping.
